It all started with some lights. Steve Harbaugh wanted to make his house look like the Griswold house, but when people saw this and said how beautiful it was, he decided this wasn’t enough.
The next year, he stepped it up with props, characters, and the authentic vehicles from the movie. This brought so many nightly visitors that Steve and his family thought it would be a good idea to start collecting toy donations in the famous RV to help families in need for Christmas. The first year they did this, they raised over 4,700 toys.
In 2020, the Harbaughs had their most successful year yet, raising over 12,000 toys. The Harbaugh family got so many drive-by visitors that the roads were backed up for miles, causing quite a commotion with the town.
Last year was most notable after a local charity organizer, Noreen Owens, teamed up with Steve to provide toys to underprivileged families in Camden. In doing so, Steve learned that Nooreen and her 7 kids were displaced and living in a motel during the pandemic. Steve and his crew got together to give Ms. Owens and her family the greatest Christmas present they could receive: a home, stocked with food and furniture, and a level of safety that they need to get back on their feet. Ms. Owens and Steve will continue to work together to give back to less-fortunate families in and around Camden, New Jersey.
